Contemporary Turkey

A new generation of scholars are exploring multifaceted questions spanning from class, politics and diplomacy to identity and religion and are challenging conventional understandings of modern Turkey. At a time when borders and boundaries are increasingly contested and mainstream politics and economics are being questioned throughout Europe and the Middle East, the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA), internationally renowned for its support of new independent academic research in the region, together with I.B.Tauris, will publish such works as part of its prestigious modern Turkey list. This collaborative collection of especially commissioned books will focus on the history, economics and politics of modern Turkey, with volumes that are academically robust and bring to light new data and insights directly from the field.

As a widely acclaimed publisher, I.B.Tauris is well placed to support new international and transnational perspectives in the field, and to produce high-standard scholarly monographs which reflect original and independent approaches to the social sciences. Middle East studies, and Turkish studies in particular, is at the core of I.B.Tauris’ list, and it has strong sales and distribution networks across the region.

The series will:
Reassess the historical and economic legacy of the region’s history.
Reconsider modern Turkish history in an international context.
Provide an outlet for new work in the field from emerging scholars.
Promote the work of academics with practical experience in the region.
Support the fellowship programme of the BIAA.
Encourage a forward-thinking and multi-disciplinary approach to modern Turkish history.

Each title will be published as a hardback and, simultaneously, as a student-friendly Kindle edition.
